Are people buying less premium tea as a result of the tough economic times of late? Not at all, at least not according to a recent article in the New York Times - Gourmet Tea Sales Stay Strong in Economic Storm. As the article notes, "Specialty and gourmet tea is a fast-growing segment within the tea industry. In the United States, it is estimated to account for 8.5 percent of the $2.1 billion in sales in 2009."

Specialty tea is growing really fast and more traditional American tea (big corporations pushing tea bags) is actually declining a little. This is good news for tea lovers and for those about to become them. It's going to guarantee a steady flow of high-quality tea to market. --Teaternity
