Earl Grey Cookies

I have to admit that I'm not really keen on Earl Grey tea.

If you are and you'd like to take a shot at making some Earl Grey Tea Cookies, check out this recipe from Martha Stewart Living. It uses finely ground Earl Grey tea leaves and orange zest, among other things, and appears to be a pretty simple one to make.

Save Twinings Earl Grey

We've all heard of those campaigns to convince networks to bring back certain TV shows. Then there was that Classic Coke thing a few decades back. But how about a campaign to get Twinings Tea to restore the taste of their Earl Grey to what it once was?

If you didn't even realize that the taste of Twinings Earl Grey is no longer what it once was, then check out Save Twinings, a Web site formed to "Bring back the original Earl Grey!".

It remains to be seen if anything will come of this campaign. Tea Guy has never had any problems resisting the charms of Earl Grey tea of any sort, but I wish the Save Twinings gang the best of luck even so.

Earl Grey Farmers

Okay, bit of an oversimplification there. But the BBC News ran an interesting piece last week on bergamot growers in the Calabria region of Italy. If bergamot isn't ringing any bells then you're probably not an Early Grey drinker, for it's the essence of this citrus fruit that gives this particular flavored tea it's distinctive taste.

In addition to being used in tea, bergamot is also used in perfumes, though in recent times it has tended to be replaced by synthesized versions of the real thing. But if Calabria's bergamot growers have anything to say in the matter that will change.

Earl Grey Overdose

Not to wax too opinionated here, but there are some teas that Tea Guy's just never gonna come to terms with. If you've been reading my prattle for long enough you know that I'm not too terribly keen on anything that falls into the chai category. Nor am I particularly enamored with Lapsang Souchong (Lebanon Bologna tea) or Earl Grey. But that's okay, because we all like what we like.

If you do like Earl Grey you might just want to go easy on the stuff. At least if there's anything to this report from the Bradenton Herald, which asserts that large doses of bergamot - which is used to flavor Earl Grey - may cause muscle cramps.

A Whole Lotta Earl Grey

I've never been too fond of Earl Grey tea. Something about bergamot just rubs me the wrong way. But we all like what we like and if you happen to like Earl Grey you might want to check out a nifty site I ran across today - Tending Toward Tea.

It features a rather staggering list of Earl Grey varieties (who knew?). I didn't click every link but it appears that most of them have been reviewed. Pretty impressive.
